Kazakhstan has revealed the most popular names for pets: dogs are most often named Aktos, Sharik and Rex, while cats are named Murka, Musya and Barsik. The data was released by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, citing the unified information system for pet registration TAÑBA, reports infohub.kz.

Currently, about 400,000 pets are registered in the system. The vast majority are dogs and cats: 291,761 dogs and 107,414 cats.

Among dogs, the most common name is Aktos, borne by 8,863 pets. In second place is Sharik (6,027 dogs), and third is Rex (5,409). They are followed by Tuzik (4,243), Laika (4,137), Arlan (3,012), Moinaq (2,382), Alapar (2,056), Barsik (2,004) and Barbos (1,963).

Among cats, the name Murka leads, with 2,236 animals registered under it. Next are Musya (1,529), Barsik (1,491), Murzik (842), Sonya (833), Ryzhik (721), Simba (698), Alisa (657), as well as Vasya and Kuzya, with 604 pets each.

TAÑBA records not only cats and dogs. The registry also includes eight rabbits, four ferrets, and one turtle, one fancy rat, one miniature pig, one hamster, and one capybara.

Rare pets have unusual names. For instance, the system lists a turtle named Aisha, a hamster named Tompi, a miniature pig named Biblik, a fancy rat named Finik, and a capybara named Boris. Among rabbits, there are Cambridge, Oxford, Rafinad and Snezhinka, and among ferrets — Pirozhok, Umka, Kipish and Zhizha.

The system also provides categories for other types of pets, including guinea pigs, chinchillas, hares, monkeys and hedgehogs. So far, no animals of these species are in the database.

When registering a pet in TAÑBA, an electronic passport is created. It includes the pet's name, breed, sex, date of birth, identification number and owner details. The digital profile also stores information about vaccinations, sterilization and other veterinary procedures.

The Ministry of Ecology noted that unified digital registration allows faster identification of an animal and access to up-to-date data on its condition and veterinary procedures performed.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that a digital pet passport with information about the pet and its vaccinations is available in eGov Mobile. The document can be opened in the "Digital Documents" section, so pet owners do not need to carry a paper passport.
