In the Abai region, probation officers provided timely assistance to a convicted man who suffered a stroke, reports the website infohub.kz.
According to the press service of the Regional Department of the Penitentiary System, during a routine check of a 49-year-old convict registered with the probation service, inspectors Ulan Kozhaev and Nurkhat Abenov found him at home lying motionless. Entering the house, the officers saw the man unconscious. They immediately called an ambulance. Before the medics arrived, the inspectors provided first aid: they laid the man on his side, unbuttoned his clothes, ensured fresh air access, and monitored his condition.
The arriving ambulance crew hospitalized the man in the intensive care unit. Thanks to the timely assistance and prompt actions of the probation officers, his condition was stabilized. Currently, the convict's life is not in danger.
The 49-year-old man was convicted of robbery and sentenced to 5 years of restriction of liberty. During a conversation, the convict told the probation officers that he has been living alone for several years and that this was the first time he had experienced such an attack.
"I have been living alone for several years and have never encountered such a condition before. That day I felt unwell, and then I barely remember anything. I want to express my sincere gratitude to them for not being at a loss, providing me with timely help, and doing everything possible before the medics arrived. I understand that if no one had been there at that moment, the consequences could have been very serious. This has been a warning for me and made me think about my health and that I should not ignore my condition," the convict shared.
"When we entered the house and saw the man unconscious, it became clear that the situation required immediate action. We did not waste time and immediately called an ambulance. Before the medics arrived, we tried to ensure he was in a safe position and monitored his condition. In such situations, every minute matters, so it is important to remain calm and act as quickly and correctly as possible. For us, human life is the most important thing. We do our job, but in such circumstances, it is important not only to supervise the convict but also to remain human, ready to help in a difficult moment," noted Ulan Kozhaev, inspector of the probation service of the Abai region.
Probation officers regularly conduct checks at the places of residence of registered persons, monitoring their compliance with court-imposed obligations. In this case, a routine check allowed timely detection of an emergency and provision of necessary assistance to the person.
