Roblox, the gaming platform, has announced plans to strengthen protections for underage users after an Australian regulator found safety breaches, according to infohub.kz.
The Australian eSafety Commissioner has entered into a binding and enforceable agreement with Roblox. Checks revealed that adult users could send friend requests to minors without parental consent.
Additionally, the regulator found that children's profiles, contact lists, and avatars were fully open to the public. There were also concerns about unmoderated communication between adults and children on external forums. Under the new agreement, Roblox has exactly three months to fix all identified issues.
As part of the deal, Roblox will make accounts of all users under 16 private by default. The company will restrict any unsolicited contact from adults and will undergo an independent external security audit. The review will also cover age-verification technologies. If Roblox breaches the agreement, the regulator will take the matter to the Federal Court of Australia.
