By 2027, all private homes in Shymkent will be equipped with smart gas meters, according to infohub.kz.

As part of the Aqyl Energy project, the metropolis is undergoing a large-scale transition to digital natural gas metering. According to the press service of QazaqGaz, the new devices automatically record gas consumption and transmit data remotely. Installation of the meters is free for consumers.

To date, nearly 80,000 private homes have been fitted with smart meters. Specialists have already begun the second phase of the project. The full transition of Shymkent's private sector to the digital system is planned by 2027.

Residents note that the new system makes billing more transparent. "Previously, inspectors went door-to-door to read meters, and then we received a bill. Now we don't pay a single kopek more or less," said Shymkent resident Uskenbai Segizbai.

Installation of smart meters in the city began in June 2025. Later, the project was extended to the Turkistan and Kyzylorda regions. In the future, QazaqGaz plans to introduce digital metering in other regions of the country. In total, 1.35 million smart gas meters are planned to be installed across Kazakhstan.
