Singapore's Changi Airport Group (CAG) is ready to provide its expertise for the construction of a new airport in Astana, Kazakhstan. The prospects for the company's participation in the project were discussed by Prime Minister Oljas Bektenov and CAG's Chief Executive Officer Yam Kum Weng, according to infohub.kz.
The government noted that in line with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's instruction to create an international aviation hub, Kazakhstan is developing the airport infrastructure of the capital. One of the key projects is the construction of a second airport in Astana.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the possibility of attracting international experience and technologies from the Singaporean company to develop Kazakhstan's aviation infrastructure.
Yam Kum Weng expressed Changi Airport Group's interest in further cooperation with Kazakhstan. In his assessment, Astana has the potential to develop as a transport bridge between Europe and Asia.
The company confirmed its readiness to provide expertise, knowledge, and experience in the airport industry for the implementation of the new airport project, which is planned to be developed as a regional hub.
It is worth noting that the government's statement does not mention any investments by Changi Airport Group directly in the construction, nor does it specify the project's cost, timeline, or the possible share of the Singaporean company. For now, the focus is on expert and technological cooperation.
Changi Airport Group operates Singapore Changi Airport and Seletar Airport. Through its subsidiary Changi Airports International, the group is involved in the development, management, and master planning of airport infrastructure. The company has participated in projects for more than 60 airports in over 20 countries worldwide.
In addition, the group implements digital technologies, including biometrics and automation, and adheres to carbon neutrality principles.
Following the talks, the parties noted that further cooperation could be aimed not only at the airport itself but also at building a comprehensive airport ecosystem.
