A new study by the Bureau of National Statistics shows that Kazakhstanis are smoking less, reports infohub.kz.
According to the Bureau of National Statistics, the annual adult tobacco consumption survey was conducted in Kazakhstan in January 2026.
"The survey covered all regions of the country, including the cities of Astana, Almaty and Shymkent. One member from each of 12,000 households aged 15 and older participated," the statement said.
The results showed that 15.1% of the surveyed household members currently smoke tobacco, down 2.4 percentage points from 17.5% in 2025.
The smoking rate in rural areas was 17.8%, compared to 14.0% in urban areas.
Among men, 30.5% consume tobacco, while among women it is 4.9%.
Of all smokers, 98.6% smoke factory-made cigarettes, 0.4% use e-cigarettes, 0.9% use heated tobacco products, and 0.1% consume other tobacco products.
