The new Sony and Marvel blockbuster starring Tom Holland has joined the elite $2 billion club, posting the second-fastest time in film history after "Avengers: Endgame," reports infohub.kz.
The superhero action film "Spider-Man: New Day" crossed the $2 billion mark in global box office receipts in just three weekends of release. The fourth solo outing for Peter Parker with Tom Holland has grossed $785 million in North America and $1.23 billion internationally, for a total of $2.022 billion.
The film is the eighth in history to surpass that milestone. Only "Avengers: Endgame" reached the mark faster, doing so in 11 days. "New Day" has left behind such box office giants as "Avatar," "Avengers: Infinity War," and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
The previous installment, 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home," stalled at $1.9 billion, missing the record due to its absence from China. Market analysts note that current figures give the film a chance to compete for the title of the year's highest-grossing movie.
