In Almaty, the cost of living in student dormitories can reach 90,000 tenge, comparable to the level of four-star hotels, reports the website infohub.kz.
Aziz Kazhdenbek, head of the Almaty Youth Policy Department, spoke at a press conference at the Regional Communications Service about dormitory prices. According to him, in national and state universities, the average cost starts from 25,000 tenge, while in private universities it ranges from 30,000-40,000 to 90,000 tenge depending on location and living conditions.
"We have dormitories that are not inferior to 4-star hotels, with their own kitchen, separate bathrooms, climate control system, and so on. The price depends on these conditions," the speaker noted.
The cost of living includes utilities, but meals are paid separately. Some dormitories offer additional services such as student shuttle and meal organization.
Kazhdenbek also reported that during the mass move-in period, the work of consultation centers has been intensified in the city. Since August 10, a Situational Center has been operating at the Women's Pedagogical University at 142 Bogenbai Batyr Street, with a 24-hour call center receiving more than 1,500 calls per day. Students can get advice by phone: +7 700 950 95 28, +7 727 237 01 70.
"Students will be advised where to stay, how to apply for a dormitory, what to do if a place is not provided, and where to turn in a difficult situation. Similar centers operate in all universities in Almaty," the head of the department explained.
In addition, temporary housing is provided for those who will be left without a roof over their heads during the move-in days. On August 22, a Crisis Center with 50 places will open at the Student House No. 1 of ALT University at 108A Maulenov Street. A student left without housing will be temporarily accommodated and then helped to choose a permanent place of residence.
Move-in to student dormitories will begin on August 25, and the academic process at universities will start on September 1.
