Heavy rains in central Texas have killed at least two people and prompted the evacuation of more than 230 residents from flooded homes and vehicles, according to infohub.kz.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott confirmed the death of a man near the town of Comfort and another near Uvalde. He urged residents to stay away from floodwaters and move to higher ground if flooding threatens. "Helicopters and drones are operating over the area. We are checking literally every spot for people who may be trapped. Help will arrive very quickly," Abbott said.
Rescuers have already evacuated more than 230 people from flooded homes and vehicles. The operation involves about 2,350 emergency personnel, as well as dozens of boats, helicopters, and specialized equipment. In Uvalde, residents near the Leon River were urged to leave the danger zone immediately after the river overflowed its banks.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has deployed five search-and-rescue teams to Texas. "Our hearts are with the people of Texas as they face the aftermath of destructive storms, tornadoes, and catastrophic flash flooding. FEMA is fully prepared to provide all necessary support to the state," the agency said in a statement.
