Kazakh President Qasym-Jomart Toqaev held a meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul during a working visit to Shanghai, reports infohub.kz.
Qasym-Jomart Toqaev emphasized that Kazakhstan views Thailand as a key partner in Southeast Asia and is interested in further strengthening bilateral ties. Particular attention was paid to economic cooperation: in the first four months of 2026, bilateral trade grew by 76% compared to the same period last year, exceeding $110 million. The president noted that the potential for cooperation is much higher and called for expanding exports of Kazakh agricultural products. To stimulate business, Toqaev proposed stepping up intergovernmental interaction, which would open new opportunities for entrepreneurs in both countries.
Tourism was also discussed. Toqaev noted that Thailand remains a popular destination for Kazakhs: in 2025, over 150,000 Kazakh citizens visited the country. In turn, Kazakhstan can offer Thais diverse holidays, including winter tourism. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed interest in expanding cooperation in the areas of economy, trade, digitalization, and tourism. At the end of the meeting, Qasym-Jomart Toqaev invited the Thai prime minister for an official visit to Kazakhstan.
