US President Donald Trump has signed executive orders restricting birthright citizenship and banning so-called "birth tourism," reports infohub.kz.
The White House said the president signed two orders aimed at limiting birthright citizenship in certain cases and strengthening federal measures against "birth tourism." It was emphasized that these orders came after the Supreme Court rejected the president's first attempt to restrict guarantees enshrined in the US Constitution.
The first order expands certain categories of foreign nationals' children who cannot enjoy birthright citizenship in the United States. This applies to children of diplomats and other non-citizens representing foreign governments.
The second order delegates presidential authority to the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security and directs them to stop the practice of "birth tourism." According to the document, authorities must flag cases where foreign women come to the US solely to give birth. It also extends to surrogacy for the same purpose.
