President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing tariffs of up to 100% on imports of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and their components, according to infohub.kz.
The White House said the order is aimed at addressing the national security threat posed by imports of drones and their parts, as well as strengthening the American drone industry and supply chains.
Under the order, a 100% tariff will apply to drones deemed most critical to US national security, including those with a maximum takeoff weight exceeding 25 kg and equipped with thermal imaging capabilities.
For smaller drones that lack certain capabilities posing a particular threat, a 25% tariff will be imposed.
Additionally, the order sets a 15% tariff on drones and components from the European Union, Japan, Liechtenstein, South Korea, Switzerland, and Taiwan, and a 10% tariff on drones from the UK, provided that virtually all equipment, software, and technology are produced in those countries or in the US.
The tariffs will take effect 21 days after the order is signed. For drone components that are not particularly sensitive, tariffs will take effect after 180 days.
