Immunomodulators cannot prevent infections spread by mosquito bites, and taking them without a doctor’s supervision can be harmful, reports infohub.kz.
Physician Veronika Varlamova warned that the widespread belief in taking immune-boosting drugs to protect against diseases from insect bites is unfounded. These medications do not prevent vector-borne infections and cannot substitute for prompt medical attention.
After a mosquito bite, it is crucial to monitor your health. If concerning symptoms such as fever, severe headache, weakness, or other signs of worsening develop, seek medical help immediately. Early diagnosis greatly improves the chances of successful treatment if an infection occurs.
The doctor noted that for most healthy individuals, mosquito bites alone are not a serious threat. However, changes in well-being should not be ignored, particularly if symptoms persist or intensify.
The best protection remains preventive measures such as using repellents, wearing protective clothing, and using mosquito nets, rather than taking unproven drugs without medical guidance, the physician reminded.
