The large Chinese crossover WEY V9X, priced at $50,000 (about 23.2 million tenge), impressed automotive blogger Sergei Gilevich with its features: air suspension, all-wheel steering, and a hybrid powertrain with a 2.0-liter turbo engine. During the test, he discovered many unexpected solutions... reports the website infohub.kz.

Gilevich admits that he was initially drawn to the V9X's specifications. With dimensions on par with large three-row crossovers, the car features a 2.0-liter internal combustion engine, two electric motors, and an all-wheel-drive system. Depending on the version, the battery has a capacity of 65 or 78 kWh, and the claimed 0-100 km/h acceleration takes about 4.2 seconds.

"I don't remember being this surprised for $50,000," says the blogger.

For that money, the V9X offers air suspension and rear-wheel steering that can turn up to 10 degrees. According to Gilevich, at low speeds this really helps: the large car feels noticeably more compact. However, he considers the feature more of an interesting gimmick for city driving.

"Why is this needed? Well, maybe in some off-road situations," the author muses.

What surprises most about the V9X is its equipment. The interior uses Nappa leather and Alcantara, and there are massage, ventilation, and heating functions for the seats, including for second-row passengers.

Additionally, the car has a refrigerator, wireless chargers, a panoramic roof, multiple screens, and even cameras instead of exterior mirrors. In the top trim, the ceiling display grows from 15 to 20 inches.

"The materials really surprise. They surprise more than usual," notes Gilevich.

He also praised the multimedia system and the responsiveness of the screens. Apple CarPlay is included. However, the surround-view cameras, in his assessment, turned out to be noticeably simpler than the rest of the equipment.

There is a fly in the ointment. Gilevich believes that Great Wall decided to save a bit on the suspension tuning. The V9X turned out to be stiffer than the Li Auto L9, Zeekr 9X, Voyah Taishan, and some other large Chinese crossovers.

"They deliberately saved on kinematics here," the blogger stated.

However, he did not call the car harsh. According to him, the V9X is softer than the Audi Q5, and above 100 km/h it remains quite suitable for highway driving. He rated the sound insulation very highly.

"No complaints about sound insulation. It's on par with the 'Lixiang' level," he says.

For the Kazakh market, the V9X is also interesting due to the potential arrival of the WEY brand. Kursiv Avto learned at the Beijing Auto Show 2026 from Astana Motors staff that GWM plans to bring WEY to Kazakhstan by the end of 2026.

Additionally, we recently spotted a WEY 07 PHEV near GWM's office in Almaty. According to the driver, the car was recently registered, and two more units are used as show cars.

If the brand does enter the local market, models like the V9X could become one of the company's main bets in the premium Chinese crossover segment.

Earlier, Kursiv Avto reported that GWM is testing Kazakhstani interest in the O5 electric vehicle.
