Salaries in Kazakhstan depend not only on the sector and region but also on a worker's level of education. According to the Bureau of National Statistics, the average monthly salary of employees with a higher education stood at 523,210 tenge in April 2026, while workers with a secondary education earned 40.5% less — 311,169 tenge, the website infohub.kz reports.
Most Kazakhstanis earn less than the average nominal salary. In April 2026, one in five workers in the country took home around 200,000–300,000 tenge. It is important to note that many factors affect pay: the size of the enterprise, the region where a person works, and the sector of activity. The level of education is another key factor — a specialist who has graduated from university is often paid more than those with a secondary education.
Citizens with a postgraduate education showed the highest average income in April 2026 — 802,944 tenge.
Analysts' data also show that a gap exists between men's and women's salaries in Kazakhstan. The average man without a university degree earned 370,980 tenge in April, while a woman earned only 235,735 tenge — 36.5% less.
The same pattern holds among specialists with a higher education — men earned an average of 616,045 tenge, while women earned 454,140 tenge.
Men with a postgraduate education earned an average of 961,068 tenge in April, while women earned 657,852 tenge.
Kazakhstan previously set its subsistence minimum — the amount an average person needs to cover basic needs. Reports have also covered how per capita incomes in Kazakhstan have grown.
