Kazakhstan Modifies Military Service Rules for Reserve Officers on Parental Leave
Kazakhstan is introducing new regulations for reserve officers who are called up for service after completing military departments at universities. The changes aim to ensure that these officers fulfill their full service obligations.
Addressing Increased Parental Leave Claims
According to Askar Mustafayev, the Deputy Minister of Defense, there has been a noticeable rise in the number of conscripted officers taking parental (decree) leave in recent years. This often results in them not completing their mandatory two-year service period.
New Rules for Service Interruption
Previously, an officer could serve for a short period, take parental leave, and then resume and complete their service after the initial two-year term concluded. However, the updated regulations stipulate that the service period will be suspended during parental leave.
Once the officer returns from leave, they will be required to complete the remaining portion of their service term. For instance, if an officer has completed six months of a 24-month service period and then takes parental leave, they must serve the remaining 18 months upon their return.
These new rules will apply only to situations arising after the regulations officially come into effect.
