Ex-MP Ali Abbasov Fights Removal, Takes Case to Supreme Court

Former Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic MP Ali Abbasov is challenging his removal from the legislative body, having officially lodged an appeal with the Supreme Court. This move comes after a controversial incident that led to his disqualification.

The Incident

Abbasov found himself at the center of a scandal when he allegedly entered a woman's home while intoxicated and made inappropriate advances. The situation escalated when the woman's husband arrived, leading to Abbasov's hasty escape through a window. The enraged husband pursued Abbasov, publicly humiliating him. In a fit of anger, the husband reportedly armed himself and attacked Abbasov's residence.

Legal Ramifications and Appeal

The former deputy's actions eventually led to a court ruling. The Supreme Court ordered his removal from his parliamentary seat. However, Abbasov disputes this decision, formally appealing the ruling by the Nakhchivan Central Election Commission. In his appeal, he argues that the procedure to strip him of his mandate was unfounded. Despite his challenge, the court's verdict currently stands.
