Journalist Explains Rumors Surrounding Imangali Tasmagambetov's Political Future

Whispers and speculation continue to swirl around Imangali Tasmagambetov, a prominent figure who has been less visible on the political stage recently. Renowned journalist Bidigali Gabdullin has shared his insights into these developments, offering an analysis of the underlying reasons for the ongoing discussions.

Why the Information Campaign?

According to Gabdullin, the primary driver behind the information campaign targeting Tasmagambetov stems from the envy and fear of his rivals, who are reportedly intimidated by his public standing and persona. Those who perceive him as a threat to their political ambitions are said to be exploiting any opportunity to tarnish his reputation.

"No one can erase Imangali's name from the public memory. His potential return to the political arena deeply unsettles some half-baked politicians. They still cannot stand Tasmagambetov," the journalist stated.

The "Shanyrak" Incident as a Political Tool

Gabdullin points out that the "Shanyrak" incident is frequently used as an argument against Tasmagambetov. However, he considers the accusations leveled against Tasmagambetov in this context to be unfounded.

"What is Imekeng's connection to the Shanyrak incident? It's known that a higher authority, not the mayor, issues orders for demolitions. The people of Almaty know well that corrupt officials were involved in the illegal distribution of land in Shanyrak. When Imangali came and started to clean up this system, those who profited from this scheme organized provocations against him," Gabdullin wrote.

Attempts to Gather Compromising Material

Gabdullin recalled that compromising material is often collected against anyone who held power during the former president's tenure. He mentioned that Rakhat Aliyev was reportedly active in gathering such material against Tasmagambetov.

"Aliyev used to get very nervous at the mention of Imangali's name. He did everything he could to block Tasmagambetov's path. If you don't believe it, look at the interview of Colonel Mukhtar Karabekov after January. Samat Abish and Dariga Nazarbayeva demanded that he give false testimony against Tasmagambetov. Although Karabekov spent four years in the basement of the National Security Committee, he refused to sign the false document," the author wrote.

Furthermore, it is mentioned that a negative information campaign was also conducted against Tasmagambetov during his tenure as Secretary of the CSTO. Efforts were made to portray him negatively to the public under the nickname "Ivangali."
