Kazakh Boxer Meirim Nursultanov Earns Shot at WBC Middleweight Title
Kazakhstani boxer Meirim Nursultanov has officially signed a contract to compete for the WBC interim middleweight championship title. This development signals a major opportunity for the 32-year-old contender.
Nursultanov is awaiting his opponent's response within the next two weeks to finalize the bout. In a separate positive development, he has successfully obtained a U.S. visa, overcoming previous rejections on two occasions.
A Long Road to Title Contention
The middleweight division sees Nursultanov, who has been a mandatory challenger for the WBC title for several years, finally getting his chance. His last professional fight was in 2023, where he defeated Julio Alamos by decision. However, the reigning champion has previously declined to face Nursultanov.
Current Middleweight Landscape
The current WBC middleweight world champion is Carlos Adames of the Dominican Republic. In December, Jesus Ramos of the United States became the interim titleholder. Kazakhstan also boasts Janibek Alimkhanuly in this weight class, who holds the WBO title and is a former IBF champion.
