A Kazakhstani citizen has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Dubai, according to new details released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, the ruling has not yet taken legal effect, as an appeal has been filed in the case.

Court Ruling and Criminal Case Details

Yertlan Zhetibaev, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, confirmed that official information has been received from the competent authorities of the UAE. On March 18, a first-instance court in Dubai found the Kazakhstani national guilty of criminal offenses and imposed a sentence of life imprisonment and a fine.

According to the UAE side, this individual is one of the accused in a criminal case initiated by the UAE authorities in 2025. The case involves serious crimes such as kidnapping, illegal detention, causing grievous bodily harm, and offenses against a person's honor and dignity.

Appeal and Ongoing Monitoring

An appeal has been filed regarding the court's decision, meaning the sentence is not yet legally binding. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and the Consulate General in Dubai are closely monitoring the situation.

Previously, it was reported that a 22-year-old Kazakhstani had been sentenced to life imprisonment in the UAE. At that time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the first-instance court had found him guilty of several serious crimes, but the verdict was not yet final due to the appeal. The ministry also noted that Kazakhstan's Consulate General in Dubai would continue to provide consular and legal assistance.

Later, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alibek Bakaev stated that the issue of extraditing the Kazakhstani citizen is not yet under discussion. He explained that the judicial process must be fully completed before any further decisions can be made.
