Kazakhstan Cracks Down on Driver's License Fraud, Officials Arrested

Authorities in Kazakhstan have apprehended former officials involved in a large-scale scheme to sell driver's licenses. The National Security Committee's Anti-Corruption Service has identified and is investigating cases of illegal remuneration and abuse of power within driving schools and licensing centers across Astana, Akmola, and Pavlodar regions.

Astana Corruption Uncovered

In Astana, the former deputy director of a specialized Public Service Center (PSC) has been detained. Investigations revealed that this individual systematically facilitated the acquisition of driver's licenses for a fee. According to the National Security Committee, over 60 instances of such illicit transactions have been uncovered, involving sums exceeding 100 million tenge.

Broader Regional Investigations

The crackdown extends beyond the capital. Similar illegal activities have been halted at specialized PSC branches in Kokshetau and within the State Corporation "Government for Citizens" in Ekibastuz. Officials in these locations were found to be accepting money to arrange for individuals to pass driving tests, often through fraudulent means.

Real Estate Irregularities Also Targeted

Furthermore, the investigation has brought to light instances of officials in branches of the State Corporation "Government for Citizens" in Astana, Shymkent, and Taraz abusing their authority. These officials allegedly engaged in illegal income generation by manipulating property re-registrations and the removal of encumbrances.

Pre-trial investigations are currently underway for all identified cases.
