Travelers in Kazakhstan are advised of significant disruptions as several major highway sections have been temporarily closed. These closures affect routes in multiple regions, including vital arteries leading out of the capital city, Astana.

Nationwide Road Closures

According to KazAvtoZhol, the national highway operator, these temporary closures are in effect until the morning of March 6th. The decision to close these sections is primarily due to adverse weather conditions, impacting road safety and accessibility.

Karaganda Region Impact

In the Karaganda region, a significant stretch of the Astana-Karaganda-Almaty highway is closed. Specifically, sections from kilometer 92 to 164, extending from the border of the Akmola region to Temirtau, are inaccessible. This closure is expected to last until 8:00 AM on March 6th.

Akmola Region Disruptions

Similarly, in the Akmola region, the Astana-Karaganda-Almaty highway is affected. The segment between kilometer 30 and 92, from the Zhibek Zholy post to the Karaganda region border, is also closed. This section is also scheduled to reopen at 8:00 AM on March 6th.

Aktobe Region Closures

The Aktobe region is also experiencing road closures. The Aktobe-Russian Federation border highway, from kilometer 39 to 136, between the village of Sh. Kaldyako and the Alimbet checkpoint, is shut down. This route is anticipated to reopen at 10:00 AM on March 6th.

Kyzylorda Region Affected

Further south, in the Kyzylorda region, a long stretch of the highway connecting the Russian border through various cities to the Chinese border is impacted. The section from kilometer 1362 to 1997, between the city of Aral and the settlement of Zhanaқorgan, is closed. This part of the road is expected to be accessible again by 7:00 AM on March 6th.
