Kremlin Sets Conditions for Putin-Zelenskyy Meeting: Talks Must Yield Agreements
A potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy can only occur if it is aimed at finalizing agreements, according to the Kremlin. This stipulation highlights Russia's stance on the conditions necessary for high-level diplomatic engagement.
Focus on Concrete Outcomes
Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for the Russian President, stated that the primary objective of any such meeting must be its effectiveness and the achievement of tangible results. "The main purpose of the meeting is why it needs to be held. Putin has said he is ready to meet in Moscow at any time. The main thing is that the meeting should have substance and be productive. It will only be possible for the purpose of finalizing agreements," Peskov explained.
Readiness for Dialogue
Peskov also indicated readiness to meet with U.S. Special Representative Stephen Whitcoff and President's son-in-law Jared Kushner at any time, even as early as tomorrow. However, the specific timeline for their visit to Moscow to discuss the peace process has not yet been confirmed.
Ukraine's Position on Negotiations
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had expressed that reaching an agreement on territorial issues would be impossible without a meeting involving the presidents of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. He affirmed that Kyiv remains open to negotiations with both Russia and the United States in any format.
