Massive Solar Storm to Hit Earth: Health Risks for Sensitive Individuals
Earth is bracing for a significant geomagnetic storm on February 15, 2026, according to forecasts from the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. This event is expected to cause notable fluctuations in Earth's magnetic field, with the most intense activity anticipated during the night and early morning hours.
Understanding the Storm's Intensity
During the peak of the storm, geomagnetic fluctuations could reach a force of 5 points. While the intensity is predicted to decrease to 4 points by evening as the geomagnetic background stabilizes, the solar wind speed is expected to be around 460 kilometers per second on that Sunday. Experts estimate a 65% probability of a full-fledged magnetic storm, with only a 15% chance of the magnetosphere remaining completely calm.
Solar Activity and Potential Impact
Currently, the solar flare activity index is in the "yellow zone" at a level of 3.8. Although two flares were recorded recently, neither reached the M-class, which is a significant indicator of solar activity. However, accumulated energy from the solar wind is still directed towards Earth, raising concerns about the upcoming storm.
Health Implications for the Meteorosensitive
Individuals particularly sensitive to weather changes, often referred to as meteorosensitive, may experience adverse health effects. The most common symptom reported is headaches, which can escalate into migraines. Other reported effects during periods of increased solar activity include:
Doctors note that sensitivity to space weather phenomena can increase with age. While completely eliminating the effects of the magnetosphere is impossible, individuals can take steps to mitigate the risks. During the storm, it is advisable to avoid strenuous physical activity, prioritize rest, and ensure adequate hydration by drinking plenty of clean water.
