Samurai Sword and Belt from Masimov's Mansion Sell for 7x Initial Price

A samurai sword and a leather belt, once part of the confiscated assets from the former head of the National Security Committee, Karim Masimov's mansion, have been sold at an electronic auction for prices far exceeding their initial estimates.

Auction Results Revealed

The company managing the returned assets offered two distinct items for sale: a samurai sword complete with its scabbard, and a leather belt adorned with national patterns. Both items were identified as property seized from Karim Masimov's opulent residence.

Record-Breaking Sales

The auction, held on February 20th via an electronic trading platform, saw the samurai sword sold for an impressive 3,413,825 tenge. This final price was more than seven times the starting bid of 461,312 tenge. Six bidders participated in this sale, each submitting a security deposit of 69,000 tenge.

The leather belt, decorated with traditional motifs, achieved a sale price of 524,261 tenge, significantly higher than its initial price of 183,750 tenge. Four individuals took part in the bidding for the belt.

Previous Attempts and Property History

These items had been put up for auction multiple times previously. Notably, in November of the previous year, the sword was sold for 542,719 tenge, but the deal fell through when the buyer failed to complete the payment on time.

It is also recalled that a luxurious house belonging to Karim Masimov in Astana was previously listed for sale. However, after failing to attract a buyer, the property was transferred to the balance of a special education center, which subsequently also declined to take possession of the house.
