Tengiz Oil Production Halted Briefly; Chevron Downplays Incident
A temporary operational halt occurred at one of Kazakhstan's most significant oil and gas fields, the Tengiz field. Information regarding disruptions at the TengizChevroil (TCO) facilities has been confirmed by the project's primary shareholder, the American corporation Chevron.
Chevron's Official Statement
In an official statement released on Thursday, Chevron described the incident as "not material." The company assured that the situation has since stabilized.
"The company's primary objective is to ensure safe and reliable operations. Oil production is gradually resuming. TCO does not provide further details on its operations or commercial matters," the corporation's announcement stated.
Conflicting Reports Emerge
Despite the major company's downplaying of the event, sources cited by Reuters suggest the scale of the incident may be more significant. According to these sources, oil production at the Tengiz field saw a sharp decline on May 26th, after which a slow recovery of production capacities began. The specific reasons for the reduction in output were not disclosed.
