Thousands Stranded in Multi-Kilometer Traffic Jam at Kazakhstan-Russia Border

A significant traffic jam, stretching for kilometers, has materialized at the Sagarchin border crossing between Kazakhstan and Russia. The congestion is primarily affecting citizens of Central Asian countries attempting to return home for the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday.

Holiday Rush Causes Border Gridlock

Thousands of vehicles are currently backed up, with travelers facing hours of waiting to cross into Kazakhstan from Russia. The surge in traffic is attributed to a large number of Central Asian citizens, many of whom are labor migrants, rushing to be with their families for the holiday.

Travelers Face Harsh Conditions

The prolonged wait has led to difficult conditions for many. Some passengers, unable to endure the heat and delays, have resorted to abandoning their vehicles and attempting to cross the border on foot.

Kazakhstan Cites Russian Side for Delays

Kazakh officials have stated that the primary cause of the bottleneck lies with the Russian side of the border. They emphasize that the current situation is exacerbated by the pre-holiday travel rush.

Specific Factors Contributing to Congestion

According to the State Revenue Department of the Aktobe region, the concentration of vehicles is observed on the Russian side. This is largely due to the return of citizens from Central Asian republics for Eid al-Adha. Additionally, the lack of separate lanes for trucks and passenger cars on the Russian side is contributing to the severe congestion.

Officials have assured that efforts are underway to resolve the situation at the border crossing in the near future.
