Trump Urges Zelensky to Act Now on Russia Peace Talks

U.S. President Donald Trump has urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to act decisively to avoid missing a significant opportunity for peace negotiations with Russia. Trump emphasized the urgency during a press briefing on Friday, February 13th.

In remarks shared from the White House's official X account, Trump stated, "Zelensky has to act. Russia wants to make a deal, and Zelensky has to act – otherwise, he's going to miss out on a great opportunity. He has to act."

Zelensky's Stance on Peace

This call comes after Zelensky previously expressed in an interview with The Atlantic magazine his preference for continuing the conflict over accepting a "bad peace." The Ukrainian president indicated he would reject any agreement if it meant forcing his people into unfavorable terms.

Zelensky conveyed his readiness to continue the fight after four years of full-scale war, asserting that Ukraine would not be defeated. He also suggested that Trump should leverage the current moment to end the war in Ukraine, potentially bolstering his reputation as a peacemaker and improving his chances in upcoming congressional elections.

Upcoming Geneva Talks

Further negotiations involving delegations from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States are scheduled to take place in Geneva on February 17-18. According to Politico, the American side anticipates progress during these meetings, although territorial issues remain a primary obstacle.
