In Kazakhstan، the digital tenge will become mandatory for a range of government expenditures. The National Bank، together with the Ministry of Finance، has regulated the use of the new currency form in purchases of medical and transport vehicles، fuel and lubricants، and other goods. The digital tenge will also be used in road construction، energy infrastructure modernization، budget lending، support for small and medium-sized businesses، and tax administration. National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenov announced this while speaking at the government، reports infohub.kz.

According to the central bank head، the country's payment turnover for the first five months of 2026 reached 677 trillion tenge، with over 90 percent of payments processed by the National Bank's payment systems. He noted that Kazakhstan has already established a national digital financial infrastructure and continues to expand the use of the digital tenge.

"Together with the Ministry of Finance، we have regulated the mandatory use of the digital tenge for several types of government spending، such as purchases of medical and transport vehicles، fuel and lubricants، and others،" Suleimenov said. He added that the digital tenge will be applied in road construction and energy infrastructure modernization، budget lending، support for small and medium-sized businesses، and tax administration.

As a reminder، the digital tenge is the third form of the national currency، alongside cash and non-cash money. It exists as tokens — digital equivalents of cash tenge — and one of its features is the ability to "program" payments، enabling tracking of fund flows and preventing misuse. Previously، the Prime Minister ordered accelerating the adoption of the digital tenge in over 100 major projects.
