Lawyer Meirman Shekeyev has spoken out against the candidacy of singer Tamara Asar for a seat in the Kurultai on behalf of the People's Party of Kazakhstan، arguing that laws should be crafted by professionals، not artists، reports infohub.kz.
According to Shekeyev، legislative work requires specialized knowledge and experience. 'Have you seen any socially useful deed from Tamara Asar؟ Have you heard her voice when the country was going through hard times؟' the lawyer asked.
'If you have been silent until now، will you believe that they will speak boldly in the Kurultai؟' he continued. Shekeyev stressed that he does not oppose Asar personally، but believes everyone should focus on their own field. 'As a citizen، I do not want my profession as a lawyer to be regulated by laws written by a singer،' he added.
