Over the past weekend, police in Astana caught 26 drunk drivers. One of the offenders was a 43-year-old resident of the capital, reports infohub.kz.

The woman was stopped around 5 a.m. on Korgalzhyn Highway. She was driving a Chery car. A check showed that she was under the influence of alcohol. According to police, she was returning home after a celebration.

An administrative protocol was drawn up against the offender under Part 1 of Article 608 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Astana Police Department reported. The court reviewed the case and sentenced her to deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of seven years.

In total, over the past weekend, police officers identified 26 drivers who got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol. The Astana Police Department continues preventive and raid work aimed at identifying drunk drivers, the department's statement says.

Police urged residents of the capital not to drive after drinking alcohol and not to let others do so. Driving under the influence poses a serious threat to the life and health of the driver and other road users. Such a violation entails strict liability in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, police emphasized.
