The time it takes for vehicles from Kazakhstan to cross the border could be significantly reduced, as Russian lawmakers have proposed setting clear time limits for vehicle inspections, reports infohub.kz.
Yuri Grigoriev, deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma committee on transport infrastructure development, has proposed limiting the inspection time for passenger cars and buses at border checkpoints to three minutes, and for trucks to ten minutes. According to him, long waits at the border negatively affect not only the comfort of travelers but also the economy and logistics of border regions.
"For passenger cars and tourist buses, up to three minutes; for trucks, up to 10. This is not just a wish, but a real goal that can and must be achieved," the deputy emphasized.
To speed up procedures, Grigoriev suggested more actively implementing digital services and biometric technologies, drawing an analogy with the organization of control at airports.
In addition, multifunctional service areas are planned near border crossings, which will include parking for cars and trucks, medical points, rest rooms, cafes and food outlets, as well as showers and toilets.
The parliamentarian also called for modernizing existing border crossings, equipping them with modern equipment.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that the government of Kazakhstan intervened in the situation on the border with Russia.
