Tech giant Meta has launched a social program in Ireland, donating 15,000 Ray-Ban smart glasses with artificial intelligence to the charity Vision Ireland, which helps blind and visually impaired people. This batch of devices will fully cover the needs of all adult beneficiaries of the organization in the country, reports infohub.kz.

The devices are equipped with a camera, built-in speakers, and support for the Be My Eyes service, which allows users to call on volunteers who see the camera feed in real time. In addition, AI algorithms can read menus, schedules, or describe surrounding objects. Meta will pay not only for the glasses themselves but also for personalized training for participants and the operation of a support service.

This project will become the largest experiment in the large-scale introduction of consumer smart gadgets into the accessible environment. Representatives of the foundation noted that registration for receiving the smart glasses is already open, and the first distributions will begin shortly.
