The first season of the hit series 'Stranger Things' can now be watched in a VHS-styled format. Netflix surprised fans by releasing a version that mimics viewing a 1980s videotape, reports infohub.kz.
The new version features all the hallmarks of old VHS tapes: 4:3 aspect ratio, grainy image, slight blur, and analog video effects. The frame is cropped using pan-and-scan technology to make the series look as it would on old CRT TVs.
According to the series creators, the Duffer Brothers, this is exactly how 'Stranger Things' would have looked if a cassette of the show were on the shelf at Family Video in the fictional town of Hawkins. Even the signature Netflix logo is styled for the VHS era, while the original audio track is preserved.
If the experiment is well-received by viewers, the Duffer Brothers do not rule out releasing the remaining seasons in the same format. Previously, it was reported that the creators of 'Stranger Things' have promised to reveal the fate of the character Eleven in 20 years.
