Almaty Graduates' Car Parade Ends in Police Intervention, Fines
A graduation car parade in Almaty, intended to celebrate the end of the school year, devolved into disorder and required police intervention. Despite official warnings against such processions, particularly involving minors, students took to the city streets in a convoy of vehicles.
Parental Accountability and Vehicle Impoundment
The unauthorized parade resulted in consequences for 21 underage students whose parents were held responsible. Furthermore, five administrative protocols were issued for violations of vehicle usage regulations, leading to the impoundment of several cars.
Police Warnings Ignored
Abdinur Tasybaev, head of the administrative police department of the Almaty City Police, stated that authorities had previously cautioned against such gatherings, especially those involving minors. However, these warnings were disregarded by some citizens. The police department has vowed to take strict measures against future violations.
Calls for Safe Celebrations
Officials urged parents and graduates to celebrate the occasion safely and adhere to traffic laws. The authorities emphasized the importance of responsible conduct during festive events.
Restrictions on Celebratory Events
This year, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Internal Affairs reiterated that certificate ceremonies and graduation parties must be confined to school premises. Celebrations in restaurants, cottages, or other banquet halls are prohibited. Despite these restrictions, parents appear to be actively preparing for celebrations, with many banquet halls in Almaty, Astana, and Shymkent already fully booked.
