Atyrau Bus Drivers Protest Low Wages, Unpaid Contributions
Bus drivers in Atyrau have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with wages that fall short of the promised amount. In a video appeal, the drivers also highlighted that their pension and medical insurance contributions have not been processed since the beginning of 2024.
Salary Discrepancies Emerge
According to the drivers, the city council approved a salary of 530,000 tenge for autotruck employees in 2024. However, they claim this amount is not being fully paid in practice. The drivers emphasized the urgency of the wage issue, citing rising prices and the increasing cost of living. They have warned that if their concerns are not addressed, they will escalate their appeals to higher authorities, potentially reaching the president.
Akimat Responds to Concerns
The Atyrau city administration has provided a statement regarding the situation. They confirmed that public transport drivers' salaries have been gradually increasing since 2024, with these increases factored into the subsidies received by autotruck companies for passenger transportation.
The city authorities noted that seven autotruck companies operate passenger transport services in Atyrau. The issues discussed on social media are specifically related to the companies 'Atyrau-Avtopark' and 'Algabus'. The Akimat suggested that problems with salary payments might stem from internal accounting within the autotruck companies and did not rule out the possibility of sending materials for investigation to supervisory bodies. Furthermore, meetings are planned with autotruck owners to ensure timely and full salary payments.
A representative from one of the autotruck companies has met with the drivers to explain the situation.
