Can Smokers Fast During Ramadan? Renowned Imam Nurlan Answers

A common question arises during Ramadan: can individuals who smoke observe the fast? Renowned religious scholar Imam Nurlan has addressed this prevalent concern, offering clarity for many observers.

In an interview conducted outside the studio for the program "1001 Nights," Imam Nurlan provided his perspective on the matter. He stated that individuals who smoke are permitted to fast, with the crucial condition that they refrain from smoking during daylight hours, consuming tobacco only after sunset.

Guidance on Habits and Fasting

Imam Nurlan emphasized that engaging in negative speech, even at night, diminishes the spiritual rewards of fasting. He also noted that individuals with outstanding debts are still eligible to fast, suggesting that the act of fasting itself can be a catalyst for personal growth and positive change.

The Imam further advised focusing on self-improvement rather than scrutinizing the habits of others. "Let us strive to correct our own shortcomings rather than focusing on whether others smoke or the words that come out of their mouths," he urged. "Let us support those who are struggling to break bad habits and be a reason for their positive change," he concluded.
