Aristanbek Abilkhaiyruly, the former mayor of Talgar city, has resurfaced in the public eye just a month after his resignation, revealing he is now working as a taxi driver to earn a living.

Abilkhaiyruly shared his new career path in an interview with the YouTube channel "УАҚЫТ КӨРСЕТЕДІ..." (Time Will Tell...). He stated that he did not want to remain idle after leaving his official post and felt it was important to support his family.

A New Role to Support Family

"It's shameful to sit at home. You have to support your family," Abilkhaiyruly explained. "There's a saying in our people, 'Even if you load it onto a donkey, earn money.' So, I am now a taxi driver." He aims to earn 18,500 tenge per day to meet his financial goals. He also mentioned that the car he uses for driving is rented, as he does not own a personal vehicle.

Health Concerns Led to Resignation

When asked about the reasons for his departure from public service, Abilkhaiyruly cited health issues. The death of his father two years prior had a profound impact on him, leaving him as the sole inheritor of family responsibilities and causing significant stress.

These health challenges escalated, leading to hospitalization in December of the previous year. Medical examinations at a cardiology center revealed several issues, including a hole in his heart and problems with internal organs, which doctors attributed to severe nervous strain.

Despite efforts to recover, his health did not improve sufficiently for him to continue in his demanding role as mayor.

The Demands of Mayoral Office

The former official acknowledged the immense pressure and difficulty of his position. He highlighted that Talgar is home to over 100,000 residents, leading to a constant influx of issues requiring the mayor's attention. "I took on great responsibility. But there are many diverse problems in Talgar, which greatly affected my health and nervous system," he stated.

Despite these challenges, Abilkhaiyruly asserted that he strived to perform his duties effectively, though he admitted he could not fulfill all responsibilities to the fullest extent.

Open to Public Service Again

Looking ahead, Abilkhaiyruly has not ruled out a return to public service. "If I am given another opportunity and the conditions are created for me to work with the people, I would try to do my job even better," he expressed.

Abilkhaiyruly previously gained public attention during his tenure as mayor, particularly for his presence on TikTok. One of his videos went viral, attracting followers not only from Talgar but also from other regions. At the time, he explained that social media helped him showcase his daily work and maintain contact with city residents.

Aristanbek Abilkhaiyruly was born in 1983. He graduated from the Almaty Agricultural College with a degree in ecology. He has worked in various roles within the communal services sector, served as the General Director of "Talgar Housing" LLP, and was a deputy of the district maslikhat. He was appointed as the Mayor of Talgar city on December 17, 2024, and served for approximately one year and two months. In February 2026, Abilkhaiyruly submitted a voluntary resignation request due to health reasons. He and his wife are raising four children.
