Kazakhstan: Father Reports Years of Abuse by His Own Sons

A distressing case of alleged elder abuse has emerged in Kazakhstan, where a 62-year-old man has come forward seeking help after enduring years of mistreatment from his own sons. The incident, which occurred in a village in the Aksu district of the Zhetysu region, has resonated deeply within the community.

A Plea for Help

The elderly man, who moved to Kazakhstan from China with his family in 2013, shared his ordeal on social media. He explained that his two sons, who live in the same village, have been demanding financial assistance from him. When he couldn't provide the money, they allegedly resorted to verbal abuse, threats, and physical violence.

He recounted a particularly harrowing incident from the beginning of winter, where his sons allegedly took him to the outskirts of the village, tore his clothes, and left him with only his underwear. He managed to return home and was ill for about a month afterward.

Escalating Abuse and Legal Action

The father, who works as a shoemaker in a small rural workshop, stated that the abuse extended beyond physical violence. His sons reportedly caused disturbances at his workplace, breaking windows and stealing his money, phone, and documents. He has reportedly sought help from the police multiple times previously. His sons were detained and even faced a court order for a one-month detention. However, upon their release, they allegedly continued their abusive behavior, despite a restraining order.

"I am asking for help out of desperation," the father stated. "I understand how bad the situation is. What have I done to deserve such abuse?" He also mentioned that a third son had previously sustained a knife wound while trying to protect him from his brothers. In February, neighbors intervened when the two sons allegedly tried to strangle him, hit him, and twist his arm.

Official Response and Public Reaction

The Zhetysu Regional Police Department confirmed that an investigation into the assault case revealed illegal actions by the two sons, aged 31 and 34. They were found guilty by the court and sentenced to arrest. Additionally, their behavior was subject to special requirements for three months, including a prohibition on approaching the victim. The two men are currently in custody and will be placed on preventive watch after their release.

The father's video appeal has gained significant traction online, with many users expressing shock and emphasizing the traditional Kazakh value of respecting elders. This case brings to light the critical issue of elder abuse, which sadly has seen other tragic instances in Kazakhstan, including a recent case in the Turkestan region where an elderly man died from severe beatings by his son.
