Kazakhstan: Head of Aktau Investigative Court Detained Amid Criminal Probe
A criminal investigation has been launched against Berik Uteev, the chairman of the specialized investigative court in Aktau, Kazakhstan. The National Security Committee (KNB) is leading the inquiry, according to official sources from the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A Judge with an Anti-Corruption Background
Berik Uteev was appointed as the chairman of the specialized investigative court in Aktau on June 26, 2023. His career path has been closely linked with law enforcement and anti-corruption efforts.
After completing his master's degree in law at the Academy of Public Administration under the President, Uteev worked within the Department for Combating Economic and Corruption Crimes (Financial Police). He later served as an operational management officer in the Anti-Corruption Service for the Atyrau region.
Uteev began his judicial career in 2020 as a judge in the Munaily district of the Mangystau region.
