Kazakhstan Schools Reintroduce Traditional Writing Tasks and Legal Education

Kazakhstani schools are set to reintroduce traditional writing assignments, including dictations, summaries, and essays, as part of an effort to enhance students' language proficiency and logical thinking. This move, announced by the Minister of Education and Enlightenment, Zhyldyz Suleimenova, aims to strengthen foundational academic skills.

Revival of Classic Writing Exercises

The return of these classic writing tasks is expected to significantly contribute to the development of students' linguistic abilities and their capacity for structured thought. Minister Suleimenova emphasized that these exercises are crucial for building a strong command of the language.

Strengthening Legal Literacy

Starting with the new academic year, there will be a heightened focus on legal education within schools. Under the "Adal Azamat" (Honest Citizen) concept, the initiative seeks to instill a greater sense of responsibility towards the law among students.

The updated curriculum includes new subjects tailored to different age groups. Students in grades 5-7 will study "Fundamentals of the Constitution," while those in grades 8-9 will engage with "Law and Order." For senior students, the "Fundamentals of Law" course will be deepened, with a particular emphasis on analyzing legislation.

Focus on Quality Education and Upbringing

Minister Suleimenova also highlighted the importance of the "Keleshek Mektebi" (School of the Future) project, stressing the need for discipline, cleanliness in educational institutions, and the modernization of teaching methods. She underscored that schools are not merely places of learning but vital environments for shaping the future of the nation.

Recent data indicates a positive trend in educational quality, with a 55.5% increase over the last four years. In the 2025-2026 academic year, over 300 students achieved success in national competitions, and 27 students were recognized as winners in international Olympiads.

This initiative reflects a commitment to holistic student development, combining traditional academic rigor with essential civic education.
