New Asphalt Causes Flooding in Semey Homes, Residents Demand Action

Residents in the Komsomol district of Semey are facing significant disruption after newly paved asphalt has led to widespread flooding of their homes. A video circulating online shows courtyards inundated with water, making it difficult for people to leave their residences.

Cause of the Flooding

The problem emerged immediately after a new asphalt layer was applied to the road. The raised road surface now directs melted snow and rainwater directly towards the houses. Without adequate drainage systems, such as ditches or pipes, the water accumulates, creating a persistent flood situation.

Residents' Struggles and Demands

Residents are forced to wade through the water to get to work or take their children to school. They report being denied permission to break up the road to create a proper water runoff system. The community blames the local administration and utility services for negligence, citing the failure to consider drainage during the road construction.

Call for Immediate Resolution

The affected residents are demanding that the city administration investigate the substandard work and urgently install a functional drainage system to resolve the flooding crisis.
