A dedicated working group, established under the leadership of the Astana City Administration, is actively refining plans for a second airport in the capital. This significant development was confirmed by Vice Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev, building on an initiative previously put forth by the city's mayor, Zhenis Kassymbek.

The project is already underway, with specialists and experts currently exploring various options for the airport's location. While a previous plan had earmarked a site along the Karaganda highway, further detailed studies are being conducted to determine the optimal placement.

Strategic Importance of the New Airport

Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek has previously indicated the possibility of completing the new Astana airport by December 2025. He emphasized that having multiple airports is a common and practical approach for many major global capitals. The city's master plan already designates future territories specifically for the development of this new aviation hub.
