Russia Warns Against External Military Influence in Central Asia

Russia has issued a firm warning against the involvement of non-regional powers in military cooperation within Central Asia. Defense Minister Andrei Belousov emphasized that such external military engagement is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

SCO Meeting Highlights Concerns

Belousov made these remarks during a meeting of the heads of military departments of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states held in Bishkek. He specifically stated on April 28th that Russia is closely monitoring attempts by countries outside the region to establish military ties and logistical operations in Central Asia.

Uzbekistan-Turkey Military Cooperation Under Scrutiny

This declaration from the Russian Defense Minister comes shortly after reports emerged regarding Uzbekistan's deepening military cooperation with Turkey. On April 23rd, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a report from his Defense Minister, Bahodir Kholmukhamedov, detailing the progress and future directions of military collaboration with Turkey. A high-ranking representative from the Turkish Armed Forces was also present at this meeting.

According to information released by the press service of the President of Uzbekistan, the meeting highlighted the significant pace of military-technical cooperation. Discussions covered expanding interdepartmental ties, organizing joint events, and training military specialists. The commitment to further deepen the partnership in the military sphere was also reaffirmed.
