UK Ex-Prince Andrew Detained Amid Allegations of Abuse of Power

A new controversy has emerged in the United Kingdom, with reports indicating that Prince Andrew, the brother of King Charles III, has been detained on suspicion of abusing his authority.

Prince Andrew's Detention

According to British media, police officers arrived at Royal Lodge, the residence of Prince Andrew, on the morning of the incident. While official statements confirmed the detention of "around sixty men" and searches at several locations, it is widely understood that the individual in question is Prince Andrew.

The alleged reason for his detention stems from accusations of providing classified information, including details about state visits and investment projects, to Jeffrey Epstein. These revelations reportedly surfaced in American court documents unsealed after the Epstein case.

Past Property Deal Under Scrutiny

Prince Andrew has consistently denied all allegations, asserting his innocence. However, the police have stated that a new investigation has been launched following a "thorough review." This development follows King Charles III's decision last year to strip his brother of all royal titles and patronages.

The current situation brings to mind a past transaction involving the prince and Kazakh billionaire Timur Kulibaev. In 2007, Prince Andrew sold his Sunninghill Park estate to Timur Kulibaev for £15 million, a price reportedly around £7 million above its market value.

A 2022 investigation by the BBC revealed that the funds for this transaction were transferred through an offshore company. This same company had previously been implicated in corruption cases related to oil and gas deals in Kazakhstan.

Although Kulibaev has not been officially charged, experts had previously highlighted several red flags surrounding the deal, including the inflated price, the use of offshore entities, loans from undisclosed sources, and the prominent status of both the seller and the buyer.
