Kazakhstan Ready to Export Halal Meat to Turkey, Boosting Agricultural Ties
Kazakhstan and Turkey are set to invigorate their partnership in the agro-industrial complex and agricultural sectors. This strategic move was highlighted by Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during the Kazakh-Turkish Business Forum.
Kazakhstan's Agricultural Prowess
President Tokayev emphasized Kazakhstan's significant agricultural potential, noting its sixth-place ranking globally in arable land and its position among the top ten grain exporters. In the past year alone, Kazakh farmers harvested 27 million tons of grain. Over the last five years, the export of agricultural products from the country has seen a substantial 1.8-fold increase. Furthermore, Kazakhstan ranks 32nd in the Global Food Security Index, underscoring its capacity to contribute to global food supplies.
Collaborative Projects with Turkey
The bilateral trade turnover in the agro-industrial complex is projected to grow by 25% by 2025, presenting further opportunities for expansion. Several key projects are already in the pipeline. Tiryaki Holding plans to establish a deep processing plant for grain crops in the capital. İskefe company intends to open a gelatin production facility, while Alarko Holding is set to construct a greenhouse complex in Shymkent. These initiatives are designed to stimulate the growth of domestic processing industries and enhance export capabilities.
Veterinary Cooperation and Halal Meat Exports
The development of modern agricultural technologies and irrigation systems are also key priorities. Cooperation is planned in the veterinary and phytosanitary fields. Notably, Kazakhstan has officially declared its readiness to export meat products that comply with 'halal' standards to Turkey, opening a new avenue for trade and strengthening economic ties between the two nations.
