Kazakhstan's Hollywood? Kaskelen Set to Become Global Film Hub

Plans are underway to transform the city of Kaskelen in the Almaty region into a new center for the global film industry. This ambitious initiative aims to develop the city into a 'Kazakhstani Hollywood,' fostering growth in both the film and tourism sectors simultaneously.

Establishing a World-Class Film Hub

According to Maksat Kikimov, head of Dala Edge Creative Tech Park, a project is being developed to create an international-level film hub in Kaskelen. The primary goal is to attract foreign film productions and, in turn, stimulate tourism. The strategy involves promoting film tourism through global franchises and movies.

Kazakhstan's Unique Advantages

Kikimov highlighted several advantages Kazakhstan offers compared to other countries. These include its unique natural landscapes, distinct four seasons, a diverse pool of actors for casting, and relatively lower production costs.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Education

A crucial component of the project is the construction of new film pavilions. Currently, Kazakhstan lacks modern facilities that meet the standards required for international projects. The plan includes building two pavilions, one measuring 2,000 square meters and another 1,000 square meters, adhering to Universal standards. These structures will boast a height of 16.6 meters, exceeding global benchmarks.

Furthermore, a campus spanning 15 hectares and covering 42,000 square meters will be established. This campus aims to partner with renowned educational institutions like the New York Film Academy, offering students opportunities for international-level education. For instance, the cost of education, previously around $58,000, could potentially be reduced to $18,000.

Additionally, an agreement is being made with the French institution École Ducasse to train world-class chefs. This culinary program aims to cultivate professionals in Kazakhstan capable of earning Michelin stars.

This initiative is reported by the Infohub.kz information agency.
