Aktau Residents Criticize City Beautification Efforts for Poor Quality

Residents of Aktau have expressed significant discontent with the city's recent beautification initiatives، with many questioning the quality and practicality of the newly installed urban elements. Social media platforms have become a focal point for these complaints، showcasing damaged advertising banners، scattered litter، and poorly constructed decorative features and lampposts.

Damaged Structures Highlighted

Among the most striking examples of the perceived failures is an advertising banner، reportedly for an upcoming referendum، which was torn in half by strong winds. This incident has drawn particular attention، underscoring concerns about the resilience of public installations in Aktau's often harsh climate.

Litter Problem Persists

The issue of litter blowing through the streets has also fueled public frustration. Residents point to the scattered debris as evidence that the beautification efforts have not adequately addressed fundamental urban maintenance needs، prompting renewed debate about the effectiveness of the chosen improvements.

Doubts Over Aesthetic Features' Functionality

New decorative elements، including cradles and trash bins، have faced particular criticism. Residents argue that these structures offer little to no protection against Aktau's strong winds and intense sun، rendering them purely ornamental rather than functional. "Are these trash bins and cradles just for decoration؟ They offer no protection from the wind from all sides، nor from the sun. Considering our hot climate، it's unclear why these are needed،" voiced one concerned resident.

Concerns Regarding Installation Quality

The installation methods for various features have also come under scrutiny. Information stands، for instance، have been noted to have wooden supports embedded directly into concrete، with visible cracks already appearing in the concrete bases. Similarly، lampposts in pedestrian areas have been observed to be installed unevenly، with small concrete foundations that are only partially covered with sand، raising questions about their long-term stability.

The editorial team has previously inquired with the city administration regarding the rationale behind installing new cradle-like structures in a windy and hot region، as well as the quality of materials and installation methods used for lampposts.

It is worth noting that over 1 billion tenge is allocated for the greening of Aktau by 2026.
