Almaty residents are experiencing severe traffic congestion as extensive road repair work has brought several major streets to a standstill. Drivers have taken to social media and navigation apps to voice their frustration over the disruptions.

Key Streets Affected by Road Closures

Navigation maps، including 2GIS، show a surge in 'Road Work' alerts on Lugansky، Omarova، Tatimbet، and Zhamakayev streets. The restrictions on these routes have diverted traffic to adjacent major avenues such as Dostyk، Nazarbayev، Seyfullin، and Satpayev، leading to gridlock on these arterial roads as well.

Timeline for Road Repairs

The closures are attributed to the connection of gas pipelines to the main network. According to previous announcements from the city administration، the work is being conducted in two phases. The first phase، which involved traffic limitations at the intersection of Omarova and Tatimbet streets، and on Lugansky Street from Armenian Street to the overpass on Al-Farabi Avenue، took place between May 12th and 16th. Work on Zhamakayev Street was scheduled for completion by May 17th.
