Almaty is embarking on a significant urban renewal project، set to revitalize 13 key streets across the city with a strong emphasis on pedestrian-friendly environments. The initial design sketches for these ambitious projects have now been released، offering a glimpse into the future of the city's public spaces. Construction is slated to begin in April and June، promising a more accessible and enjoyable urban experience for residents and visitors alike.

Revitalizing Almaty's Streets

According to the Almaty City Public Space Development Department، the renovation efforts will encompass 13 vital streets. Construction and installation work is scheduled to commence in April and June of this year. The department confirmed that these projects are entirely funded by the local budget، underscoring a commitment to enhancing the city's infrastructure and public amenities.

The department assured that all work will be carried out in phases، minimizing inconvenience for residents and street users. Efforts will be made to maintain accessibility to main thoroughfares throughout the renovation process.

Transforming Urban Landscapes

The projects are being implemented based on a "facade to facade" principle، aiming for a comprehensive overhaul of the urban infrastructure. The overarching goal is to create comfortable and safe environments، prioritizing the needs of pedestrians.

Focus on Satpayev Street

A significant part of this initiative involves the redevelopment of Satpayev Street. A 3.7-kilometer stretch، from Luganskaya Street to Bayzakova Street، is being redesigned based on a project by LDA Design from London. The total area dedicated to landscaping will cover 4.5 hectares.

The primary objective for Satpayev Street is to transform it from a transit route into a recreational and strolling space. The emphasis is on creating a comfortable، inclusive، and aesthetically pleasing environment that encourages daily walks، relaxation، and social interaction.

The department anticipates that the revitalized Satpayev Street will become a popular destination، boosting Almaty's appeal for investment and tourism.

Current Progress on Satpayev Street

As of April 23rd، visible construction activity was noted near the intersection of Satpayev and Nazarbayev Avenue، close to Republic Square and opposite the Monument of Independence. This includes the erection of high fences and banners، with specialized equipment operating within and around the fenced areas.

While activity is concentrated around Republic Square، construction work had not yet extended to the remaining sections of the street up to the intersection with Bayzakova Street. The phased approach means that work will gradually progress from Republic Square، with specific completion dates for the entire project yet to be finalized.

The overall aim of the Satpayev Street beautification project is to foster a modern، green، and pedestrian-friendly urban environment. The authorities will continue to monitor the progress of street modernization efforts across Almaty.
